Indy editorship: Kelner out, Blackhurst in

Simon Kelner’s 13-year reign in charge of the Independent is over as the Lebedev regime makes its first big call since purchasing the paper last year.

Chris Blackhurst is the new man in the editor’s hotseat. He is currently the business editor of the London Evening Standard — also owned by Alexander Lebedev — and is also a former deputy editor of the Indy.

Kelner becomes editor-in-chief, but according to MediaGuardian, “will have no responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Indy and its stablemate, the Independent on Sunday”.
