Brooks and Coulson trial date set for September 2013

Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson will stand trial for phone hacking allegations in September 2013, their pre-trial hearing has revealed.

The former News International chief executive, Brooks, and ex-Downing Street director of communications, Coulson, were given a proposed trial date of 9 September.

At the hearing, Brooks, Coulson and 12 other defendants spoke only to confirm their names.

Coulson and Brooks are among the eight former staff of News of the World charged with conspiring to hack into phone voicemail accounts.

Brooks faces a further three charges of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, while her husband and five others face one count of the same charge.

Today’s pre-trial hearing will be followed up on 12 and 13 December the presiding judge, Mr Justice Fulford, informed the defendants.
